Bodies of illegal border crosers found over the weekend
The bodies of two illegal border crossers were found this past
weekend along Arizona's stretch of U.S.-Mexico border.
On Friday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office received a call
about a body near Patagonia in the Harshaw Road area, said Sheriff
Tony Estrada. The body was located in such a remote and rugged area
that deputies were unable to reach the location until Saturday,
Estrada said. The body was identified as a 41-year-old man from
Nogales, Sonora, he said. The cause of death is unknown
Border Patrol agents recovered skeletal remains 30 miles northeast
of Sasabe on Saturday, said agency spokesman Mario Escalante. It
was unclear if the deceased was a man or woman, he said.
The number of border deaths in the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector is
on the rise again through the first four months of fiscal year
2010, which began in October. The Border Patrol has recovered the
bodies of 57 illegal border crossers through January, up from 41
last year.
